The Materialization of Life into alternative economies

Ben Kinmont

$16     (Ships late October 2026)

“A curated project with different people, this time from the art world, showing different notions of economy and distribution: Paula Hayes/Wild Friends for collaborative economy, Joseph Grigely for information economy, On Kawara for gift economy, Gordon Matta-Clark for business economy, and Mierle Laderman Ukeles for maintenance economy. My reasons were to offer another reading of Lippard’s idea of conceptual art as a dematerialization of the art object and, instead, suggest that perhaps, for some, it was actually not so much about the art object but about life, about a materialization of life.”
—Ben Kinmont

A new facsimile edition of Kinmont’s 1996 booklet, originally produced for his exhibition of the same title at Printed Matter in New York. Reproducing the artist’s own archive copy—inscribed with a letterpress archive label and numbering—the booklet is published thirty years later in collaboration with Kinmont and bookseller Yoshi Hill, on the occasion of Hill’s fall 2026 exhibition on Bleecker Street of the project archive surrounding the work. Typeset to match the original, including its misregistration, typos, and other printed inconsistencies.
